Salon History and Story

The Story

In 2013 Alisa, the owner, opened her first salon. She, wanted to create a space where not only herself, but her artists as well, could learn, grow and value teamwork. It was her desire to get away from the toxicity and drama to build a space where artists felt safe, supported, and heard. A space where artists could feel like it was their own.

The original space was a 4 chair salon located on Pinehurst Ave...hence formerly being called The Avenue Salon. For 6 years it was a blended salon of both booth renters as well as commission artists. Alisa, being the ever evolving person she is, envisioned growing even more. After 6 years, she decided to move and expand into a larger location. After 5 years and lots of traveling, she desired a more relaxed, quiet, and zen space. She wanted a new name to go with the new space, and for it to reflect her love of traveling Africa while being free... and Wild Mane Salon was born in their new location in 2023.

This new location, while smaller, is much more intimate and welcoming. It's a space where it can house up to 3 part-time stylists as well as a private room Alisa does Reiki out of.

Her goal is to bring artists who enjoy pampering their guests, a quiet relaxing space, and a place where they feel safe and valued.  Independence, freedom and tons of passion and heart are encouraged. And at the same time, supporting our artists in a safe space to grow their very own empires inside of ours and smash their own glass ceiling.

''We don't  just let dreams simply be desires. We turn them into reality.''

About the Owner

Alisa has been in the industry for over 25 years. She has learned in immense amount, not only about herself, but the industry as well. Starting off as an employee in 1998 gave her the insight into what she wanted for her future when she opened her salon.

She credits her massive growth to being ever evolving, open to change, her ability to listen, experiencing failures along the way, and being willing to take risks. One of her biggest sayings is, "There is no growth within a comfort zone" and this has been true for her whole career.

She started off as a stylist in Wisconsin and in 2002 made the move to North Carolina, where she has been since. She made one of the biggest decisions when she moved here and started off directly on booth rent, even with zero clients. It taught her how to market herself as well as really dig into business.

Alisa's experience as a salon owner is also ever evolving. She started the salon in 2013 after saving up enough money to not have to take out a loan. She is proud of Wild Mane Salon and has always been  selective about who she lets into the space. She is protective of her artists and wants them to be a mirror of the salon culture she's created. It's a place where artists can build their dream businesses, have massive growth, and be supported.

Alisa wears many hats. Along with being a stylist she is also an usui reiki Master, a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. Even more, she's a Transformation and Business coach, owning Encompass Coaching by Alisa,  helping women who desire to build businesses or side hustles, make a ton of money, and become the CEO's of their own lives.

Who We Are Looking For

10

Now that you have read over and learned what we offer, we would like to now share with you who we are looking for.

We are looking for respectful, kind and professional artists to join our team. We have a beautiful thing going on at Wild Mane salon. We value our mission and our culture, and are dedicated to protecting it no matter what. We are a relaxed salon with no space for drama or gossip. As you read in our values, we want artists to join our collective who share in the same values as we do.  In addition to our values, here are a few other things we look for when bringing on new artists into The Avenue Salon...

Professional: While we are an easy going group of artists, we are able to keep the salon this way due to the type of artists we bring into the salon. We value professionalism and want to work along side artists who have a professional image. We prefer artists who speak at a normal volume during work time as we value it not getting too loud or overpowering. Our goal is to provide  a welcoming, relaxing and safe space with a fun vibe, so because of this we must be forward when we say we value true professionals.

Passionate about Education and being supportive: We offer a lot when it comes to education, training and mentorship. We would hate for artists to miss out on it, however, it is all 100% optional. We encourage all of our artists to take what they need from all of it. There is never any pressure to participate in Wild Mane Salon education and mentorship, however we truly value those who understand the value of education. Those who participate typically gain more value from their membership than those who don't.

Give a great Guest Experience and service: Like we said earlier, our guests are the reason we have a successful career. It is very important to us that each guest who walks through the door of Wild Mane Salon be taken care of and appreciated. We have a specific way we like to make sure each guest is taken care of. It starts when they first reach out to communicate with us, all the way through the actual service and then checking in with them a few days after their service. We like to make sure they enjoy their time with us and leave with raving reviews and a wonderful service.

Positive and Growth Mindset: Are you a positive, supportive, and upbeat artist? Or do you always look for the negative? Most of us spend the majority of our days at work, on average, so we prefer the amazing artists who have a positive attitude. Now, we are always here for support if needed, so let there be no fear in reaching out. The ideal artists we look for are able to set their boundaries to keep our salon culture from becoming gossipy or toxic. We desire a positive work environment filled with kindness and fun.

Accountability and Kindness: We value both of these. Being kind to one another goes a long way. Everything we do, we try to remember to be kind...to one another and our guests. Taking accountability for your actions and not pushing blame onto others. This builds trust internally and externally.

Cleanliness: We put extreme value on being clean, and the salon has a reputation for being so. All of our artists must be clean, and maintain their station, storage area, tools, and common areas to the ultimate high standard. Since we share the entire space, we need to count on one another to clean up after ourselves each day. We will mentor in the moment and kindly remind all artists to clean up after themselves or clean up anything you see that may be out of place. We strive to maintain a clean and comfortable space for everyone...and by clean, we mean VERY clean.

Communication skills: We understand that speaking up may be hard or make you feel uneasy. However, if there is anything that ever bothers you about your work environment, please don't hesitate to talk to us. We want things to be brought to our attention if there's any concern or questions, so that we are able to address them. By doing this, it helps us to eliminate gossip, resentment, or building up feelings that may come to a head at an inopportune time. We also want our artists to have good communication skills when it pertains to their guests as well. As we know, consultation and communication is just as important as giving them a great service.

Punctual:  We value artists that show up at least 15-20 min before their first client to get set up and ready for the day. This eliminates the need for any rushing and the ability to stay on time. We feel that walking in when your guest is walking in is not a part of us being professionals.

Fun and engaging: this is a big one for us as well. We love to joke around, laugh. and have fun, both with one another as well as our guests. We have guests that have been with us for 10+ years, so some of our artists know everyone. We strive to be engaging not only with our own guests, but with other artists guests as well. This makes the guests feel like they belong. And we are all about being inclusive.
